Yeah forget about it. Its hard to be charismatic when you are naturally repulsive.Yea i can understand the the Toreador can be a little heavy but as I said in my other response its really ST dependent. They had dissociative identity disorder (also called multiple personality disorder) even when alive.
And that is a more accurate description of the madness that comes with the Malkavian curse. But, Malkavian derangement was never meant as a depiction of mental illness. What a non-Malkavian is witnessing is a person's imperfect coping mechanism for an extraordinary situation (known as the Madness Network, it is a kind of shared stream of consciousness watching 10,000 TV channels all at once that can never be turned off). For example from VTMB1: Jeanette split herself in two, and regressed back to a painful and likely buried memory as a means to segregate the competing narratives that the Madness Network brought her.Grout on the other hand was obsessed with understanding the nature of vampirism and made paranoid by the secrets that the Madness Network gave him. Nosferatu is harsh, but I get it. But something that must be understood is that Malkavians When the World of Darkness materials were being written the creators purposefully chose the term deranged as a descriptor of the madness that the Malkavian clan exhibited. We will probably start playing without any change and if we feel that it's too much we will homebrew somethingFirst and foremost, you understand the flaw repulsive the wrong way. and to bring this to the full end, even if a player decides to fully embrace obfuscate and choose Mask of a Thousand Faces or pay for a merit like Impostor’s Guise they suffer a penalty equal to their bane severity!!
It is deliberately meant to reflect our own world, so while the creatures are fantasy, their problems are meant to line up with ones faced in the real world. My experience as an ST and a player was that so many people sink so many dots into it (not a problem with the Nosferatu, but just a general observation) and it's more of a status symbol than anything else ('I'm very pretty.') So I've been reading through the clans and it's banes and there are some banes that are really not balanced when compares with others. And this is a game about fantasy creatures dealing with fantasy situations.I mean Malkavians are insane, quotes from v20 rulebook:Upon the Embrace, every Malkavian is afflicted with an insurmountable insanity that fractures her outlook for every night thereafter, making her unlife one of madness.Make no mistake: Malkavian insanity is a painful, alienating phenomenon, but it occasionally provides the Lunatics with bursts of insight or heretofore unknown perspective. If it was, the vast majority of Malkavian players backstories would be incorrect, as derangements often(though not always), are based on things that happened it the Malks human lives.
Coterie/Relationship Map Also how do Malkavians choose who to embrace? At least per v5, the clan curse can augment pre-existing illness, or create it in one who wasn't mentally ill. As to some of what can go into the selection process (generalized as Second Sight, Insight, and the Broken):If a person interprets dreams, can perceive spirits, or unerringly predict future events, the Malkavians take notice.A high level of empathy, finely-tuned knowledge of complex subject matter, or just as obsessive drive to pursue the answers to philosophical questions each appeal to the clan.Individuals who have been changed by traumatic experiences or who were simply born slightly detached from themselves and the rest of society. One thing that is often ignored about Malks, is very often the voices they hear have nothing to do with their bane. Irregardless, I appreciate the point you're trying to make. You have a hard time hiding your ugly face, i feel thats almost a joke compare to all the other banes; easier to frenzy, malus to discipline, reduce several Attributes dots for the night, nope Nosferatu didnt get the short hand of the stick at all imho.well you do make a strong point but like I said these where first impressions. Malkavians also get two points to spend on Social, and one for Physical, their weakest attribute. Put to good use, though, the bane of a Malkavian can be unnerving or downright terrifying. Of course. They're ill.
Alas the Nosferatu is always present and no way around itThat's why I think the better slant would be to give them a penalty when their source of beauty is I am extremely glad to see that the 'Appearance' attribute has gone. If I'm inspired by Da Vinci and make a painting in the same style as Mona Lisa, that doesn't mean I represent Da Vinci. Brujah is basically the same, translated to the new system.
While Kindred like Jeanette and Therese could be referred to as sufferers of DID, there's certainly aspects of their condition that will be nonetheless unique. However, I think trying to divorce it altogether is a cop-out, as "deranged" is a common synonym for a variety of mental illnesses in culture, and the inspiration taken from mundane mental illness can't be overstated. Malkavian and Toreador got a lot less stupid.
